Coastal monitoring to be strengthened

Sandeep Mittal, a 1995-batch IPS officer, assumed office as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Ramanathapuram Range) here on Monday.

He has replaced A. Amalraj, who has been transferred to Tiruchi Range. Mr. Mittal had earlier served as DIG of Police (Dindigul Range) and in the Narcotics Control Bureau, New Delhi.

After taking charge, he told reporters that his priority would be to maintain law and order in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts.

He would concentrate more on addressing the grievances of people. They could meet him anytime to air their grievances.

The petitions would be promptly forwarded to the officials. He said he would follow the action taken by the officials concerned.

Mr. Mittal said since Ramanathapuram was a coastal district and it had a close proximity to Sri Lanka a number of steps had to be taken to monitor movements along the coast. Coastal monitoring system would be strengthened.

Steps would be taken to improve the road safety awareness level among people and reduce the number of road accidents.
