Constable selection begins in districts

A large number of young aspirants assemble in Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Tuticorin and Tirunelveli

Selection for secondary grade constables and fire service personnel commenced at Armed Reserve Police grounds at Seelapadi near here on Tuesday.

Inspector General of Police Shankar Jiwal was the super checking officer.

Certificate verification and endurance test like 1,500 m race were conducted for candidates from Theni and Dindigul districts on the first day.

A total of 4912 men – 2,771 in Dindigul and 2,140 in Theni – and 568 women including 392 in Dindigul and 176 in Theni, appeared for the test. Screening, physical tests and other tests will continue for the next five days, according to DIG N. Arivuselvam.

These candidates had passed the written test. They had to cover 1,500 metres in seven minutes to pass the endurance test.

Other tests will take place on August 27, 28 and 29.

The male candidates will have to take part either in long jump or high jump and either 100 metre or 400 metre race.

The women candidates will participate either in long jump or high jump, 100 metre or 200 metre race and either cricket throw ball or shot put event.

On an average, selection will be done for 1,200 candidates in a day, he pointed out.

Superintendent of Police T. Jayachandran monitored the arrangements.

Madurai

A large number of young aspirants assembled with a lot of optimism at the Armed Reserve Grounds where physical endurance tests, as part of selection process for police recruitment, began here on Tuesday.

The candidates started arriving on New Natham Road as early as 6 a.m. from different parts of the district.

Senior officers and those police personnel on duty alone were permitted inside the sprawling grounds. Friends and relatives of the aspirants were kept off the venue.

Mediapersons were permitted for a specific time to take photographs and videographs. According to officers, various field track events are being held for the candidates. Verification of original certificates was carried out and recording of information such as height and weight of candidates were noted. Over 6,000 candidates appeared for the test.

Tuticorin

As many as 1, 200 candidates took part in the recruitment to posts of Grade – II constable under Tamil Uniform Services Recruitment Board at District Sports Stadium here on Tuesday.

The candidates for posts of constables, jail warders and firemen went through various procedures of selection. A total of 3,780 candidates, including 3, 255 men and 525 women, would go through selection process. Super Checking Officer, Rajesh Das, Inspector General of Police, South Zone, inspected the proceedings in the presence of Chairman of Sub-Committee, Sandeep Mittal, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, Chennai, and Superintendent of Police, J. Rajendran, Member – I of the Committee.

Tirunelveli

A total of 1,112 candidates, who had passed the written test for the Grade II constable posts, turned up for the physical measurement taken at Anna Stadium on Tuesday.
